Marcelo Bielsa heaps praise on summer signing Ben White

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has hailed the performances of defender Ben White since his loan move from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer. The 21-year-old has been a solid presence at the heart of the defence this season and he has helped the club keep five clean sheet from the opening 11 league games.

Speaking in a press conference, Bielsa hailed White as a great player and said that he does not making any mistakes even when he decides to take risks, he told: “He’s a great player. He takes risks and he doesn’t make mistakes. That’s the most difficult thing in football. It’s easy when you take risks. It’s normal to make mistakes when you take risks. The best players risk and don’t make mistakes. Everything seems White is in this band.”

Marcelo Bielsa reacts to Patrick Bamford’s performance against Western Sydney

Leeds United managed Marcelo Bielsa has continued to back Patrick Bamford despite the striker’s woes in pre-season. The former Chelsea graduate struggled to find the net during the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and he was particularly poor against Western Sydney Wanderers, where he was handed with a number of clear-cut chances.

Speaking to Leeds Live, Bielsa acknowledged that Bamford is not going through the best of times in the club’s shirt but hopefully, he can finally convert the chances into goals sooner rather than later, he said: “For a striker it is very important they create chances. At the same time, for his confidence it is important he finally finishes these chances and scores. One of the first steps for a forward is it is important he creates a chance and makes steps in his performance in the pre-season and finally he scores goals.”

Marcelo Bielsa admits disappointment after back-to-back Leeds United defeats

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has admitted disappointment after the team suffered succumbed to successive losses to Wigan Athletic and Brentford in the Championship. The Yorkshire outfit had a brilliant chance to cement one of the automatic promotion spots for the Premier League, but the same has now become difficult with Sheffield United moving to the second place with a three-point advantage and a superior goal difference.

Speaking after the 2-0 loss to Brentford, Bielsa admitted that the top-two remains improbable for the season after squandering their chances to win against Wigan and Brentford, he said: “I am very sad. We had the hope to finish first or second, but with the loss, it is now going to be very difficult. The game was like many games we have played this year, we didn’t take advantage of the positive moments where we could have made a difference. At the beginning of the first half and at the beginning of the second half we could have scored goals and in the moments we dominated less, they dominated us and scored goals.”

Bielsa cautious about maintaining top spot

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa claimed that the club should remain focussed in the Championship after returning to the top of the table by beating West Brom. Leeds were able to get a comprehensive 4-0 success over West Brom to overtake Sheffield United and Norwich City. Even though the latter has the choice of getting back the top spot with a win from their game in hand, there is no denying the added pressure on the Canaries. Bielsa has seen his Leeds team come up with some inconsistent performances of late. The lack of consistency is usually not a major problem in the Championship when teams tend to drop points at various points in the campaign.

West Brom had been one of the favourites for promotion throughout the campaign but Darren Moore’s team were outclassed by Leeds, who took the lead through Pablo Hernandez. The lead was doubled by Patrick Bamford in the 28th minute. Even though the Baggies tried to get back into the game through a strong performance at the start of the second half, Leeds managed to arrest any likelihood of a comeback with further goals in the second half. Bamford was able to score more goals in the second half. Even though Leeds have regained top spot, Bielsa was cautious about sustaining this position.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King believes Leeds United are strong favourites to return to the Premier League, should they maintain their form through the festive period. The west Yorkshire outfit have transformed themselves into frontrunners for promotion under Marcelo Bielsa and they were temporarily at the top of the standings over the weekend before Norwich City leapfrogged them to the summit.

Speaking after the club’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United, King was pleased with the progress made by the club under the guidance of Bielsa and feels the team could return to the top-flight for the first time since 2004 next season, he said: “Leeds were temporarily top of the Championship after their 1-0 win over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.
